Australian Spotted Ducks are an American bantam breed which was initially created in the 1920s by John C. Kriner and Stanley Mason of Pennsylvania. They were created by breeding together Call, Mallard, Northern Pintail and an unknown/undocumented Australian duck breed. Today the breed is listed as critically endangered which means that "fewer than 500 birds in the U.S., with five or fewer primary breeding flocks (50 birds or more), and an estimated global population less than 1,000 (according to The Livestock Conservancy)".
Aussies (As we like to call them) are a small duck weighing only 2 to 2.2 pounds. They are friendly, like to socialize with people, but can still fly just as well as wild ducks.
They come in 3 color varieties : Bluehead, Greenhead and Silverhead with 3 different feather patterns: Trout, Spotted and Snowy.
